KHCT Regent II HAT 245

KHCT Regent II HAT 245

I could do with some help please.
Hull 245 - HAT 245 is a 1946 AEC Regent II with a Weymann body. It has been acquired for full restoration by an enthusiast in Nottinghamshire who has the skills and facilities. We don't know a great deal about the history of this bus except that it was for many years we understand owned by the Hull 245 Group. I am sure that there are many people that know a great deal about the history of this vehicle. So any information would be gratefully received.

Isn't it amazing what difference a missing bit of grille can make to the appearance of a radiator. Good luck to the new owners.

The upstairs windows are different below the sliders than on HAT 241 in this shot they are more round cornered can't imagine they were different on one side of the bus than the other.

The upper deck windows had obviously been re-built at some point, most probably by KHCT themselves. It was common practice when the original frames had deteriorated and no doubt the easiest option was to cut a new window from metal plate and mount the glass in rubber gasket.
This is a fantastic addition to the preservation scene, I believe it will create a trio of these fine Weymann bodied Regents with the final LT STL type and Mansfield District examples. I'd like to wish good luck and success to the new owners in their efforts.

If you look on Flickr there is a photo of HAT 245 in 1970. So sad to see what a mess it is now and hope it gets sorted out undercover as it deserves.

There will be a lot of people who will know more about 245 HAT 245 history then me, but I have sent all I know with a few photos in preservation and one in service.
245 HAT 245 was new to Kingston upon Hull Corporation Transport and entered service 8/46.
AEC Regent II chassis number 06617633, with a Weymann H31/29R body number M2895. The full batch was 240-255 HAT 240-255.
It was withdrawn from service 7/66 and passed to Kingston upon Hull City Engineers number 75 along with 250 HAT 250 of the same batch in 8/66, both were repainted green. it was withdrawn by the engineers dept in 7/71 and was acquired for preservation by the 245 Preservation Group in 1971. It was repainted into KHCT livery and was rallied for a few years, but by 1980 was disused.
KHCT did change the window style on several deckers replacing the square type with the rounder pans.
In the 1960's some deckers were used as driver trainers, but still used in service, 245 was one of these, and was fitted with a removable window in the back of the cab, to enable the instructor to converse with his pupil.
Good luck with this project, it to be hoped that 245 can be up and running.

Below is a selection of my shots of 245 from service to decline, I hope they are of interest.

The window on the HAT as it was known where rebuilt this way because the Weymann steel pans rotted, this was a cheep way of doing the rebuilds. Some of the trolleybuses got rebuilt like this. If John would like any info on the bus he can contact me as my uncle stared the 245 Group. I also have a Hull Regent III OKH 337 with Weymann body this will be on the road this year. My next project is MKH 84 the East Yorkshire Yellow Peril.
