Cosy Car Service

Cosy Car Service

My Grandfather Wilfred Mennell ran the Cosy Car Service in York.
Attached are pictures of two of his busses. I know virtually nothing about Cosy Car Service.
I was hoping some body might have information.
Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Cosy Car Service (W. Mennel), Haxby, York was taken over by the West Yorkshire Road Car Company Limited on the 8th June 1930.
Vehicles acquired were:

VN 528 Albion PK26 with Barnaby B26F body new in July 1927
These became West Yorkshire 634, 635, 631, 632, 99 and 633 respectively
Earlier vehicles not acquired were:

A close up of the first shot shows the proprietors as W. Mennel and E Sheriff at Haxby, now where have we heard of Mr E Sheriff before.

Yes he was the proprietor of this concern.

Cosy Cars was originally a partnership between W Mennell and E Sherriff. Mr Sherriff left the partnership at an unknown date and was later involved with Ovington Motors. In December 1929 he acquired 3 vehicles from Ovington, along with their York-Helmsley licence and began to trade as "Reliance"-a business which still exists. The two Ford Ts were new to the partners, and were bodied by Barnaby at Hull-I suspect that it was one of these bodies that was transferred to the Metallergique.

I found the Cosy Car info very interesting, I think it is possible that all the Hull registered vehicles may have had Barnaby bodies, my Hull registration notes show -

KH 1107 was registered 17/6/25 by Dales -?- (dealer?) for an un-named operator (Cosy Cars?), it was licenced by NRCC in 25/6/25 then WYCC 24/6/30, Sheffield 28/10/31 and last owner given as T Allsop of Sheffield.

KH 4786 as registered by Barnaby for un-named operator (Cosy Cars?), licenced in NRCC 19/5/27, then WYCC 24/6/30, Glasgow 26/4/35, Ayr 14/8/35 & Stirling 9/9/37.

AT 8439 licenced 21/10/23 to un-named operator (Cosy Cars?), then licenced in York 14/1/24, NRCC 14/4/24, last owner W Mennel last licenced to 12/27.

AT 8440 licenced 21/12/23 to un-named operator (Cosy Cars?), licenced in York 17/1/24 then NRCC 14/4/24, last owner E Sheriff, Haxby last licenced to 9/27.

I hope the above may be of some interest.
Are there any more photographs you can share with us Peter I found the two posted really interesting.

A search through the online archive of The London Gazette has revealed a notice from Mr Mennell and Mr Sheriff to the effect that Mr. Sheriff left the partnership on 1st December 1926.
