The demise of the co-ordination agreement was detailed in the previous chapter, and at that time relations between the City Transport and East Yorkshire Motor Services were at an all time low, and it was in this state, that a new operating agreement was thrashed out. It took effect from the 17th May, 1981. Instead of sharing receipts, as hitherto, each operator kept all fares collected on its buses, irrespective of the ultimate destination of the passenger. The four joint services, although still jointly licenced by East Yorkshire and the Transport Department, were in actual fact operated by EYMS.
The city network now comprised of two separate elements; (a) those services operated by the city Transport and (b) those services operated by East Yorkshire, for which the council provided financial support, these included not only the four joint services, plus others which operated along roads which the council did not. Financial support for these services only extended as far as the city boundary. The support included covering the council concessions, including the prepaid Crown Card. To identify the network upon which the Crown Card and council concessions were valid, the city network carried route numbers under 100. The supported services still carried the low route numbers on the portion of the journey beyond the city boundary.
The supported routes of East Yorkshire were as follows;
To Willerby Road (Wymersley Road) | Routes 1, 2 and 4
BH101/12 | To Willerby Road (Wymersley Road) | Routes 3A and 3D |
BH101/84 | To Wymersley Road (Willerby Road) | Routes 3 and 3D |
To Bethune Avenue (The Mermaid) | Route 6
BH101/54 | To Greenwood Avenue (Ellerburn Avenue) | Route 13 |
BH101/118 | To Compass Road | Route 16 |
BH101/103 | To Longhill or Ark Royal | Routes 56 and 56A |
To Priory Road (Setting Dyke) | Routes 60, 61, 62 and 64
To Somerden Road (via Southcoates Lane) | Route 76
To Somerden Road (via Hedon Road) | Routes 76A, 76D, 78 and 79 |
Of the above, all but the 3, 3A, 3D, 13, 16, 56 and 56A operated to points beyond those given, and fares charged beyond that point were at East Yorkshire’s own fare levels.
